cOUNTER ASSOCIATE

JOB BRIEF 

This position is for the counter associate team member. The successful candidate will work within the main register, typically focusing on customer-service related work. Working as a Fab-U-Less Finds team member, you will be expected to perform a number of duties, including sale processing, customer service, opening & closing duties, voucher coordination, and any other duties as assigned by your supervisor or the agency director. Additional responsibilities for this position currently include assisting with donation drop-offs and possible delivery work.   
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITES
  • Welcome customers to the store and answer their questions

  • Assist customers in determining prices and make them aware of any discounts or special promotions associated with their chosen items
  • Process POS (point of sale) purchases, credit transactions, vouchers, and gift card/coupon redemption
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service
  • Assess customers’ needs and provide assistance and information on products
  • Build productive trust relationships with customers
  • Maintain stock of all items needed to perform sales duties, coordinating with other employees to determine when additional supplies are needed; inform supervisor when items are needed in a reasonable timeframe to ensure production is not interrupted
  • Sort through assigned donations to determine if items are to be sold or disposed
  • Maintain in-stock and presentable conditions in assigned areas (clean and organized)
  • Perform shelf stocking and rotating duties of seasonal and holiday merchandise
  • Actively collect items to be sold during the quarterly seasonal sales
  • Maintain sales floor by cleaning, pricing and arranging items so that customers can move through the area and items are easy to view/access
  • Assist with all donations regardless of the type of donation being made
  • Remain knowledgeable on programs offered (e.g. vouchers, Adopt-A-Family, etc.) and direct customers to appropriate resources (front office)
  • Participate in yearly inventory of store and maintain general knowledge of items in work area

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven work experience as a retail sales associate, sales representative or similar role
  • Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
  • Proficiency in English
  • Basic math skills 
  • Working knowledge of customer and sales
  • Hands-on experience with cash registers, POS transactions, credit card processing
  • Familiarity with inventory procedures
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • A friendly and energetic personality with customer service focus
  • Ability to multi-task and move easily from one task to the next
  • Availability to work flexible shifts
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Some heavy lifting required
  • High school degree or equivalent, or equivalent work experience
